We would explain in this article that how a person can identify their blood types and what it means to them.

What exactly is a blood type?

The presence of certain substances called antigens in our blood helps determine which blood type we are.

Blood in a person’s body may have ‘A’ antigens, ‘B’ antigens on the surface of their red blood cells. It may also be possible that both antigens ‘A’ and ‘B’ are present or neither of them are present. They may also have a type of protein which is called the Rhesus (Rh) factor.

At the first stage of identifying blood type, a test is conducted which is called ABO typing. After this, in the second stage a process for identifying the presence or absence of the Rh factor in the person’s blood is conducted.

Including these ( 4 ABO types and the 2 Rh types ), we find out that there are 8 common blood types:

  1. A+
  2. A-
  3. B+
  4. B-
  5. AB+
  6. AB-
  7. O+
  8. O-

First involves drawing blood using a needle and then testing blood by rapid blood typing kit. You can buy the home blood type test kits online here.

Second way does not require you to draw any blood. In this method you may use your saliva sample to test for your blood type, as some people’s saliva may have the presence of the characteristic antigens.

However, it is important to note that second method is known to be less reliable than the first one.
